Woman in Viral Catcalling Video Gets Rape Threats

Well, it’s fucking depressing to say it was bound to happen but considering the state of the world, it really was: the woman who starred in Hollaback’s viral street harassment video has reportedly been getting rape threats in the comments of the video on YouTube.

The video stars Shoshanna B. Roberts, a New York-based actress. Not long after it went up Tuesday, Hollaback tweeted, “The subject of our PSA is starting to get rape threats on the comments. Can you help by reporting them?”

This is one case, however, where a platform actually appears to have responded swiftly to calls of threats: Hollaback deputy director Debjani Roy told AMNY that the comments were “being deleted.”

The video has garnered over a million views and over 27,000 comments. Recently posted negative ones (presented for you sic) are about what one could expect: “Harassment is defined as unwanted behavior. This woman said NOTHING so how could the guys know that they were harassing her? Fuck this bitch and her campaign to get money to stop men from simply talking to her in public” and “VERBAL HARASSMENT ? WHAT !? This woman should feel good about all these compliments she received. Yeah some guys were acting all weird and creepy but NOBODY TOUCHED HER. Fucking feminists, women these days threat compliments as sexual harassment ?”
