Who Does Ivanka Think She's Kidding With This Oprah Tweet?

Why won’t Ivanka Trump stop sharing opinions so obviously antithetical to her actual beliefs? I don’t know, but she’s at it again, this time praising Oprah’s show-stopper of a speech delivered at last night’s Golden Globes.

Oprah took the stage last night and immediately heralded one of the most powerful moments at any awards show in recent memory, using her acceptance speech of the Cecil B. DeMille award to invoke Recy Taylor, a black woman who in 1944 was abducted and raped by six white men, none of whom were prosecuted for their crime.

“She lived as we all have lived, too many years in a culture broken by brutally powerful men,” Oprah said. “For too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dare speak the truth to the power of those men.”

Donald Trump, Ivanka’s father, has been accused of sexual assault by a passel of women, his licentious offenses ranging from accusations of groping to rape. Ivanka is well aware of these accusations—supporting her father and working directly in his administration makes her an accessory to them. We know this. We’ve always known this. What possible logic, then, could lead her to this tweet?

Some other questions I have that will never be answered: What part of the speech did Ivanka find “empowering” and “inspiring”? Was it the part where Oprah called the press “under siege” (by her father)? Was it the part where she referred to the “insatiable dedication to uncovering the absolute truth that keeps us from turning a blind eye to corruption and to injustice” (by her father)? Literally what does Ivanka think Oprah is talking about here?

What also truly baffles me is who Ivanka intends as her audience. Anyone with even passing knowledge of her translucent brand of fraudulent feminism would never buy it. The election has proven that plenty of (white) women supported her father’s campaign; she has no need to curry favor with them.

I know that searching for reason anywhere within the Trump name is like trying to find a dropped contact lens in the middle of a hurricane, but…what? What?
