Politico says that "several women close to Obama" including Valerie Jarrett, convinced him to choose Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz" over former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland for DNC chair, partly to appeal to Jewish, Floridian, and/or female voters. We're big fans.
It's a smart choice. I had some concern over a sitting representative also being DNC chair, and I still do. I suppose it's true that when elections tend to heat up, general legislating cools off for fear of anyone actually voting on something that might be controversial, but fundraising, strategy, and appearances are a full-time job, election season or no.
