A few days ago, Rosie O’Donnell ran into Ivanka Trump at Nobu. This was noteworthy, as Ivanka’s father had recently reignited his decade-long feud with O’Donnell at the first presidential debate. “@IvankaTrump in a city of 8 million – we meet face 2 face – i thank u 4 listening – mother 2 mother – on this new years week – my best 2 u,” O’Donnell wrote on Twitter.
In a poem titled “8 million to one” published Thursday night, O’Donnell, who often expresses herself in verse on rosie.com, elaborated on this encounter. O’Donnell reflects on feelings of depression and shame following the debate, and says Ivanka was “absurdly kind.” She also describes Jared Kushner’s “calming charm,” which seems a bit generous. (It is all a bit generous.)
Here is an excerpt:
“that is the most beautiful woman i have ever seen”
i say aloud to dana
she turns to look – turns back at me
“that’s ivanka”
can’t be i said
no it can’t be
it is –
she reassures me
what r the chances i say to myself
