Having recently sung in Into the Woods (and who could forget all that bed jumping in Mamma Mia?), it was only a matter of time before Meryl Streep would expand her vocal chops. In the trailer for her new movie Ricki and the Flash, we see Meryl playing a weathered rocker who comes home to deal with the family she’s mostly abandoned.
There are a few cool things about this movie, despite it’s somewhat saccharine trailer: it’s written by Diablo Cody, Meryl’s real-life daughter Mamie Gummer plays her movie daughter, and Meryl learned to play guitar for the movie. And let’s ignore the bizarre half-braided hairstyle she’s wearing, and focus on the rest of the cast — Kevin Kline plays her ex-husband, and Audra McDonald plays his new wife. Groovy.
