Virginia Governor Calls for Investigation Into UVA Gang Rape Frat

Two days ago, Rolling Stone published a bombshell article about an alleged gang rape at UVA’s Phi Kappa Psi fraternity in 2012, and the labyrinthine headache that greeted the woman who tried to seek justice. Now, the Governor of Virginia is calling on the University to thoroughly investigate the fraternity.

According to Reuters, Governor Terry McAuliffe said he was “deeply disturbed” by the piece, and suggested that perhaps UVA should bring in outside investigators to look into what happened to the woman at the center of the case. In a statement, he said, “I have called for a zero tolerance strategy to combat campus sexual assault. I have asked university officials to conduct a full review of all of their policies and procedures and if decided, to bring in outside experts to assist in this effort.”

UVA officials, caught with their proverbial pants down, say that details disclosed in the piece were previously unknown to them and that now they’re cooperating. Funny how, in cases of campus sexual assault, institutional cooperation so often closely tails public humiliation.

Meanwhile, the Phi Kappa Psi house suspended all of its fraternity activities and voluntarily surrendered its Fraternal Organization Agreement as UVA conducts an investigation.
