Very Charming Human Tom Hanks Helps Girl Scouts Sell Cookies

Latest

Just like the rest of us, celebrities can’t walk past a table of Girl Scouts without buying several boxes. That includes Tom Hanks, who (when recognized) stuck for pictures and told some passersby they could have a photograph… if they bought some cookies.

The Los Altos Town Crier reports (h/t New York Daily News):

Tom Hanks, a Hollywood legend – and Bay Area native – who has appeared in some of the biggest blockbusters of the past 25 years, purchased four boxes, donated an additional $20 and offered to have his photo taken with people who recognized him – as long as they bought cookies, too.

Apparently he was in town with his son (Truman, not our good pal Chet Haze) to visit a local typewriter shop:

It turns out that Hanks is a big typewriter collector. He initially went to the store to have his son’s typewriter repaired, but he ended up buying two vintage Smith-Coronas.

So that’s what Tom Hanks does for fun.
