Van Der Sloot Offers To Reveal Location Of Natalee Holloway's Remains
LatestJoran Van der Sloot has been charged with first-degree murder and robbery in the death of 21-year-old business student Stephany Flores. As the case proceeds, new and more horrible details keep coming out.
Police have released a little more information about the night Flores died. They say Van der Sloot began his attack by smashing in her face. He then strangled her and threw her to the floor. He took all the money from her wallet (roughly equal to $300) before trying to dress her in his shirt. He admits that he tried to stuff the body into a suitcase, but was unable to make it fit. Realizing he was probably out of options, Van der Sloot fled the hotel, taking Flores’ cash, credit cards, and ID card, with him when he left. He also stole her car, which he abandoned in a lower-class Lima neighborhood before heading to Chile.
Van der Sloot has claimed that he killed Flores in a fit of rage after finding her on his computer. However, police are not sure they believe his time line. Some have suggested that the date – five years after Natalee Holloway‘s disappearance – is the real reason he decided to strike again. Police suspect Van der Sloot may have murdered Flores before going out for coffee and bread – meaning his motive may not be as clear as “anger.”
Today, a Lima Superior Court Judge ordered Van der Sloot to be jailed on charges of first-degree murder and robbery. A court spokesman told the Associated Press explained the decision to charge Van der Sloot with first-degree murder: “The aggravating factors are having acted with ferocity and great cruelty,” he said. If convicted, he will face between 15 to 35 years in prison.
But even when facing a 30 year sentence, Van der Sloot continues to toy with the Holloway family. Earlier this year, he accepted $25,000 from the FBI in a seemingly failed sting operation. He told investigators he would reveal the location of Holloway’s body, yet like before, his story never checked out. He claimed he buried her body, with the help of his father, in the foundations of a house. So far, no body has been found – and even more telling: the house that he named wasn’t even built when Natalee went missing.
Van der Sloot admitted on May 17 in an email to investigators that he had, in fact, lied about the location of Holloway’s remains. More recently, he has offered to tell authorities where Natalee is buried, but with one condition: He will not tell the Peruvian investigators – he wants to tell the Aruban police himself.
