Up for Auction: Notes From Jackie O to Her Designers

Latest

If you need a little push to sprinkle some color into your wardrobe, consider this little communique from human argument for the glamour of sunglasses Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis: “I just love this suit & will wear it everywhere as I am SO sick of everyone constantly in black — like Mediterranean villages where everyone is in mourning for 20 years.”

That’s from a thank-you note she wrote to Carolina Herrera design director Bill Hamilton, who often worked with her on purchases. (Apparently she’d turn up for fittings with a PB&J in her purse, plotting a working lunch.) It’s from a trove of correspondence and photographs that’s going up for auction in Palm Beach, according to the Associated Press. There’s 30 or so pieces on offer, mostly from the last 10 years of her life, including sketches of custom clothing she’d like to see. If you’re in the market, the bidding will likely start between $800 and $1,200.
