Says UConn's coach: "Because we're breaking a men's record, we've got a lot of people paying attention. If we were breaking a women's record, everybody would go, 'Aren't those girls nice'....let's send them back where they belong, in the kitchen."
Ugh, so much manufactured outrage. There are two things that a winning streak this fantastic proves: high quality psychological work, to avoid inevitable letdowns; and a massive disparity in talent.
The truth is, in this impressive winning streak, how many games were they not favored to win by 10+ points? I'd guess maybe 10. In none of those games were they underdogs. And in the whole streak, the final margin of victory was less than ten twice.
I respect the kind of work that goes into a streak like this. But it says more about the state of that league than it does the UConn Huskies themselves.
