Two Hilarious (and Depressing) Takes on Voter I.D. Laws, Courtesy of Sarah Silverman and The Simpsons

Latest

One of the biggest issues of the upcoming election is how many states are enacting voter ID laws that make it increasingly difficult for people without driver’s licenses to vote. While lawmakers assert that this is to prevent voter fraud, the more cynical (or thoughtful) among us speculate that the laws are designed to keep certain demographics — demographics that generally vote left — away from polling places and out of the election. Sarah Silverman recently released video to give her keen take on “the brand new, super fucked up laws” that will primarily effect elderly people, black people, students and poor people while benefitting the right wing.

The Simpsons, which is about to enter its 1000th season, also took on the election and issues of voter IDs in a new promo depicting Homer as he attempts to vote and is asked for ID because “Stopping all Americans from voting is for the protection of all Americans.”

We have to laugh to keep from crying.
