- The federal government will allow states to impose work requirements on those enrolled in Medicaid. States will be allowed to apply for a waiver that will require “working-age, able-bodied adults,” enrolled in the program to either secure employment or volunteer in order to receive coverage. “The thought that a program designed for our most vulnerable citizens should be used as a vehicle to serve working-age, able-bodied adults does not make sense,” Seema Verma, head of HHS’s Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, said in a policy speech. - Senators Ted Cruz, Tom Cotton and Rand Paul are pressing their party to include language in the tax bill that would repeal the Obamacare penalty. [The Hill]
- During a press conference in South Korea, Donald Trump was asked about tightening background checks for gun ownership. Trump said that if Stephen Willeford, the Texas man who pursued the Sutherland Springs shooter, didn’t have a gun, there would be more dead. “Instead of having 26 dead, you would have had hundreds more dead,” the President said. He added that additional gun control measures are “not going to help.” [CBS News]
