Trump Reportedly Threatened to Sue Producers for Not Casting Him as the President in Sharknado 3

David Latt, co-founder of The Asylum, the film company behind the Syfy channel’s shockingly relevant Sharknado series, told The Hollywood Reporter in an article published Wednesday that in January, 2015, Donald Trump signed on to play the US President in Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!. According to Latts, an offer went out and, “The Donald said yes…. He was thrilled to be asked.”

That cameo never materialized though, and not due to shark hurricanes, but, arguably, an even worse unnatural disaster: Trump decided to seek the presidency for real. Actor Gerald Webb, who worked as a casting director on the first three Sharknado films, told THR ,“We got pretty far,” in negotiations with Trump, so that a contract was drawn up and everything. That contract was sent to Trump’s lawyer, Michael Cohen, the very same now under investigation in connection with the Russia probe, and who told a Daily Beast reporter in 2015 to “tread very fucking lightly, because what I’m going to do to you is going to be fucking disgusting.”

Anyway, Trump followed his initial burst of enthusiasm for the project with weeks of silence, after which Cohen eventually got back in touch with the Sharknado team to inform that that, “Donald’s thinking about making legitimate run for the presidency, so we’ll get back to you…. This might not be the best time.” Really? Cause the President Trump that I know would probably star in another Sharknado film tomorrow (what would they call it?), preferably just after announcing some sickening new Justice Department initiative, so long as he remembers for long enough that he wanted to do that.

After receiving this message from Cohen, the producers decided to give the role to Mark Cuban instead, still a get, at which point, “we immediately heard from Trump’s lawyer,” according to Latt. “He basically said, ‘How dare you? Donald wanted to do this. We’re going to sue you! We’re going to shut the entire show down.” Cohen told THR that he has no recollection of becoming this angry.

Sharknado 3 also features a cameo by Anthony Weiner (obviously I have not seen this movie) as a NASA administrator.
