Transparent Just Won Two Emmys Back to Back

In the first hour of Sunday’s ceremony, Transparent won its fourth and fifth Emmy awards—Jill Soloway for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series and Jeffery Tambor for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series—back to back.

Both Soloway and Tambor gave impassioned speeches about the ongoing struggle for transgender rights, before chucking their statues into the pile of Transparent Emmys that will certainly keep growing as the night goes on.

“My moppa, Carrie, she could, tomorrow, go and try to find an apartment and in 32 states, and it would be legal for the landlord to look her in the eye and say we don’t rent to trans people,” Soloway said in her speech.

“Thank you for your patience, thank you for your courage, thank you for your stories, thank you for your inspiration, thank you for letting us be part of the change,” Tambor said in his.
