Tony Bennett ‘Met’ His Wife While She Was Inside Her Mother’s Uterus

Meet-cutes—those serendipitous moments when two lead characters first run into each other—have been a staple of romantic comedies since Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert were forced to sit together on a bus in It Happened One Night. But if the love story of Tony Bennett and his wife Susan Benedetto ever made it to the big screen, it would have a meet-cute unlike any I’ve ever seen before—one that occurs while Benedetto is inside her mother’s uterus.

In his new biography, the 90-year-old singer who may or may not be controlled in a Weekend at Bernies-like way by Lady Gaga explains that “Benedetto’s parents, Marion and Dayl Crow, were dedicated fans” who, in 1966, posed for a photo with Bennett after one of his shows.

Bennett writes:

“As fate would have it, Marion was pregnant at the time with Susan! It’s a photo we all laugh about, knowing the incredible turn of events that followed.”

Ah yes, what’s funnier than a photo of your 40-year-old self standing beside someone whose uterus is filled with the child who will become your wife 41 years later. Nothing! Absolutely nothing is funnier than that.

We don’t talk about the Duggars much anymore, but now that one of the hyphenated ones has started making comments about “courtship,” I think it’s time we revisit them. In a story published this week, People discusses 19-year-old Joy-Anna Duggar’s new boyfriend. Only, wait, they don’t call him her boyfriend—or even a relationship!

This is a courtship. Nothing more, nothing less.

Joy-Anna Duggar, 19, has entered into a courtship with her friend of 15 years, Austin, the teen revealed on Tuesday’s special episode of Counting On: Jinger’s Wedding.

And, again, it’s not a relationship! What Joy-Anna and Austin are doing is referred to as “intentional time.” (I’m sure it is!)

Here’s how the two co-courters explained their decision to begin spending intentional time together in a formal courtship.

AUSTIN: I just asked her to enter a courtship with me.

JOY-ANNA: And I said yes! We’ve known each other for a long time.

AUSTIN: Almost 15 years. I picked this spot because last time we were here together was August 1, 2015.

JOY-ANNA: There was a whole group of us that came up. And we were just hanging out and it was really late at night, stars were just gorgeous. For me that’s really special, but then just being with him. And then now it’s even more special because it’s where we start our courtship.

And this is where I start walking backwards until I’m somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic.

Okay, first, as long as both parties are over the age of 25 or so I don’t usually judge on age differences, but telling that story is definitely a “no, no.” Full stop. I mean, if you wanna be that guy who is with someone young enough to be your granddaughter then you do you, but don’t emphasize it. Nobody wants to hear that shit.

Second, those poor Duggar girls are gonna have to keep getting married and popping out kids to supplement the life their parents have become accustomed to, aren’t they?
