Tom Hardy Alert: The new trailer for the Mad Max:Fury Road movie is out and the good news is the Internet doesn't seem to hate it yet.
In addition to my secret husband, Mad Max: Fury Road boasts plenty of other stars, including Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keough, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Ms. Please-Don't-Marry-Sean-Penn Charlize Theron. Theron is who you want to really watch out for in this trailer because she brings some massive road rage badassery to the film, thanks to her crazy robot arm.
The trailer is incredibly loud and intentionally filled with lots of things blowing up, which is exactly as a trailer for a Mad Max movie should be. Via The Huffington Post:
Switching Tom Hardy in place of [Gibson], director George Miller is looking to bring a "new interpretation" to his own franchise reboot. "Fury Road" picks up after the initial series opener, described by Miller as "almost a continuous chase."
"Of course it's based on the same character that they'll play, the lone warrior in the wasteland disengaged from the rest of the world," Miller said in a press conference. "But naturally Tom brings his Tom Hardy-ness to it, and the story is different to some degree. The character is different to some degree."
During the Comic-Con presentation for the film, moderator Chris Hardwick TOOK IT THERE when he brought up original franchise star Gibson, according to The Hollywood Reporter:
Hardwick put Miller on the spot when he joked about Gibson's fall from Hollywood grace in recent years. "Who knew that Mel would turn into Mad Max at one point," he said.
Miller was speechless. Then he tackled the topic diplomatically.
"They have that eternal tension," Miller said, referring to Gibson's charisma. " On one hand they are entirely lovable and accessible. And on the other there is that element of danger … It applies to every charismatic person."
I will definitely go see this.
