Tim Murphy, Anti-Abortion Congressman Who Allegedly Suggested That His Ex Have an Abortion, Resigns

• Representative Tim Murphy (R-PA), the anti-abortion lawmaker who allegedly pressured his mistress into having an abortion, announced that he will resign—effective today. Late on Wednesday, Murphy had said that he would retire at the end of his term. “It was Dr. Murphy’s decision to move on to the next chapter of his life, and I support it,” Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said in a statement. • According to reports, Donald Trump is likely to announce on October 12 that he will “decertify” the nuclear deal with Iran. The decision could result in the United States reimposed sanctions on Iran which would end the agreement made in 2015 to limit Iran’s nuclear production. Unnamed officials said that Trump would “hold off on recommending that Congress reimpose sanctions on Iran that would abrogate the agreement.” [Washington Post]
  
• The National Rifle Association said today that it would support restrictions on bump stocks. The devices alter semiautomatic weapons, allowing them to fire hundreds of rounds in a short period of time, and were used by the Las Vegas shooter on Sunday. “The N.R.A. believes that devices designed to allow semiautomatic rifles to function like fully-automatic rifles should be subject to additional regulations,” the group said in a statement.
