There's a New Pee Wee Movie On The Way! Scream Real Loud!

Did somebody say “wish“? On last night’s The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Paul Reubens announced that a Judd Apatow-produced Pee Wee film is in the works and will begin filming in February.

Reubens, who apparently is consuming the same anti-time serum that keeps Bob Costas perpetually 35, also announced that the film has signed a director. While this lifelong Pee Wee fan is trying not to get too excited that the new crew behind Pee Wee’s Big Resurgence can match the magic of Tim Burton’s Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, it’s hard not to. Please don’t fuck this up, Hollywood, she said to her desk, aloud, in an office half full of people.

While the film doesn’t have a release date or much of a cast (that Reubens can discuss publicly, at least), there’s plenty of Pee Wee-related material out there to sate your appetite until the film’s inevitable trickle of teasers culminates in the film actually hitting theaters. Pee Wee’s Playhouse is available on DVD (recommended, although you have to purchase the totally worth it the star-studded holiday special separately) and the 2012 documentary Beauty Is Embarrassing chronicles the artistic life of influential Pee Wee’s Playhouse puppeteer Wayne White. Or you can always don platform shoes and dance stiffly to “Tequila!” while you wait. No judgement.
