How does "bellycasting" work? Well, if you ever made a plaster of Paris art project when you were a kid, you already know the routine: It's as simple as slathering up your belly with vaseline, dipping the plaster into water, wiping off the excess liquid, and slapping it on your tummy. Voilà! A creepy masterpiece that your future child will groan at the sight of for the rest of their lives.

Yeah, this doesn't seem all that new to me. It also doesn't seem all that creepy, either. I mean, it's not something I want to do, but I don't see how this is any weirder than displaying footprints or handprints. I don't like most of the designs pictured and I don't think I'll be making a bellycast but... I fail to see how this is creepy or even laughable.

Dare I say that people might be weirded out by this because it's taking something inherently female that used to be cloistered, even embarrassing, and celebrating it?
