A middle school teacher from Channelview, Texas has reportedly been fired after giving offensive fake awards to students.
The certificates, which were signed by Stacy Lockett, were handed out during an awards ceremony last week at Anthony Aguirre Junior High, according to the New York Times. The 13-year-old Lizeth Villanueva, a seventh grader, received a certificate titled “Most Likely to Become a Terrorist” and according to Fox 26, another seventh grader Sydney Caesar was given an award for “Most Likely to Blend in With White People.”
Villanueva told reporters that other teachers were in the room and laughed during the ceremony. The Channelview Independent School District told the New York Times that they “have concluded our investigation, and the teacher responsible is no longer employed by the district” and that other teachers have been disciplined.
“Everyone doesn’t believe that this is real. But yes, this certificate shows that this is real. This happened. And we have enough bullying as it is by other students, now it’s being done by a teacher,” said Caesar’s mother Latonya Robinson to Fox 26.
