Tavi Gevinson and Jane Pratt Teaming Up To Launch Teen Mag

Latest

The Style Rookie/Daria fan/preteen who is constantly stylin’ on everyone took to her blog to announce that she and Jane Pratt, founder of Sassy and Jane magazines, are going to work together to make some Sassy magic for today’s teens.

The as-yet-untitled teen magazine won’t be an exact baby twin of Tavi’s idolized Sassy of yore. She explains,

For one, you can’t try to recreate something that good. For another, while I can read old issues of Sassy and relate, the world has changed a bit in the past 15 or so years, and that whole Internet thing happened, and this world calls for something different. Something that will use Sassy as a point of reference for the whole teen-magazine-that-doesn’t-suck thing, and something in which Jane Pratt will take part, but something that is not trying to recreate the other something a bunch of us love and don’t want to see copied.

The publication is looking for submissions, so readers with a yen for writing for what sounds like it’s going to be a refreshing departure from the interchangable teen-focused mags of today sharpen their writing pencils (or typing… fingernails…).

Interested parties should submit writing samples to [email protected] by next Friday, November 19th. More details can be found on The Style Rookie blog, but unfortunately The Style Rookie blog doesn’t contain blueprints on how to build a reverse-aging machine so that I can read this magazine on the train and not feel like a creep.
