Sylvia Robinson Dead At 76

Latest

You may know Sylvia Robinson as “Little Sylvia.” Or as one half of the duo “Mickey & Sylvia,” who sang “Love Is Strange,” which was a hit in 1957 — and again in 1987, as part of the Dirty Dancing soundtrack. But she also — along with her husband, Joe — founded Sugar Hill Records in 1979 and released the hip hop classic “Rapper’s Delight.” She’s being called a pioneer and “the mother of hip-hop.” She is survived by three sons and ten grandchildren.
