Police in St. Louis County are searching for a gunman who fatally shot a woman and sexually assaulted at least one person at a Catholic Supply store on Monday afternoon.
A 911 caller “reported that the shooter went inside the store and ordered women inside to strip at gunpoint, and sexually assaulted several of them before shooting one of them in the head,” according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. But police say they are still trying to determine what, exactly, happened inside the store.
Police say the victims were not known to the gunman, who was described by witnesses as “a white man, about 5 feet 7 inches with a heavy build and age 40 to 50,” reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The suspect has not been identified or apprehended. As Sgt. Shawn McGuire of the St. Louis County Police Department put it, somewhat terrifyingly, “We have a loose, armed gunman out there who’s already shot one person.”
