Some of Marvel’s Biggest Names Appear to Have Gotten a Memo to Publicly Defend Director James Gunn
CelebritiesDirt BagDays after he was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy 3 for a series of “appalling” tweets in which he joked about “rape and pedophilia,” some of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s biggest names have taken to Twitter to defend their former coworker James Gunn.
In a statement released late last week, Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn wrote:
“The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James’ Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio’s values, and we have severed our business relationship with him.”
Since then, Gunn has released an apology of sorts on Twitter (a thread, of course), and talent like Zoe Saldana, Selma Blair, David Bautista, and Chris Pratt have come to his defense, suggesting he has matured since tweeting the bad tweets.
I’m honestly less interested in their defense of Gunn than I am in the fact that it appears to be a coordinated move—one that could ultimately lead to Gunn getting his old job back.

On the cover of the new issue of Us Weekly, there’s a cover chip that definitively states, “Katy & Orlando Move To London For Love.” Inside the magazine, after consumers have already paid $6.99 for the publication, the tabloid seems to back away from its narrative and simply speculates, “Katy Perry: Moving To London?” Not only is the article a bait-and-switch, but it also doesn’t appear to have an answer to its own question.
“People get upset, especially in Germany, if they see my daughters wearing high heels. Big deal! If we go to a restaurant, they like to get dressed up. It’s fun for them. So what if they hobble on their little heels for 20 steps from the car to the restaurant? As long as they’re good kids and they get good grades, they can wear what they want to wear.”
