Solange announced on Instagram today that she’s cancelling her New Years Eve show in South Africa on account of her diagnosis with autonomic disorder.
Autonomic disorder comes in a variety of forms, but the general idea is that it impacts the body’s ability to regulate internal organ functions like heart rate, blood pressure, digestion and body temperature, which can result in fainting, lightheadedness, fluctuating blood pressure and other symptoms that would make performing very, very hard. As she wrote on Instagram:
...
The past five months I have been quietly treating, and working through an Autonomic Disorder. It been a journey that hasn’t been easy on me...
Sometimes I feel cool, and other times not so cool at all.
It’s a complicated diagnoses , and I’m still learning so much myself, but right now, my doctors are not clearing me for such an extended lengthy flight, and doing a rigorous show right after.
I can’t put into words how saddened and sorry I am that I am unable to perform for you guys this NYE, there is simply no other place I wanted to be than there with my family to bring in 2018 with you.......but I give you my ABSOLUTE WORD I will come back with AfroPunk and deliver this performance.....as it is so extremely important to me to connect with the people who have so closely inspired me in so many ways.

The diagnosis likely explains why she bailed on a few shows earlier this year, including a Florida date in November which she cancelled due to a medical condition. Still, she’s managed to be shockingly productive despite her setbacks, most recently directing a SZA video in between a multitude of other projects.
In July, she apparently busted out of a hospital to make a in London performance, telling fans:
“I was in hospital this morning. I was in hospital for three days. After my show I had a serious episode and was told I shouldn’t perform. And so I broke out of that bitch this morning because I knew this place was going to be filled with so much love. Thank you for believing in me when I didn’t believe in myself.”
