Both I'm OK You're OK and to a lesser extent Games People Play (it's a little less accessible) are excellent books and worth considerably more than dross like The Secret. They are both about a psychotherapeutic approach called Transactional Analysis which may not be especially fashionable any more but is actually pretty sound in my view. I really recommend reading I'm OK for a framework for analysing how you react to problematic people and situations and for ways of dealing with problems this may cause.
