ScarJo Says Marrying Ryan Reynolds Was 'The Best Thing I Ever Did'

Scarlett Johansson had a heart-to-heart with Cosmopolitan about what went wrong with Ryan Reynolds, and she’s reached the same conclusion that pretty much every other person who has been married does: it’s hard work.

I think I was not fully aware of the peaks and the valleys. I wasn’t prepared to hunker down and do the work. Both of us were extremely busy. We spent so much time apart. It’s very difficult. It’s bad.

Despite all that, Scarlett doesn’t regret their decision to enter into what turned out to only be a two-year marriage:

It seemed like a very romantic thing to do, and it was. It was the best thing that I ever did.

She sounds far more nostalgic than most recently divorced people. Maybe she’s genuinely fine with how things turned out—or maybe she’s trying to win Ryan back from the clutches of Blake Lively by subtly reminding him of what they once had. [E! Online]

  • Speaking of Ryan Reynolds and his new gal Blake Lively, they were spotted going out for ice cream in Ridgefield, Connecticut. For the record, they got one scoop of English Toffee and one scoop of Chocolate Fudge Brownie, and shared them from the same cup. So sweet it kind of hurts your teeth to think about it, right? [People]
  • Seems like Ashton Kutcher has a case of the divorce sads. He drove around Hollywood and parked at one point to admire a view of the city. He reportedly “looked totally heartbroken when he stepped out of his Lexus.” More like Awwwston Kutcher. He wasn’t wearing his wedding ring, which seems logical, but he’s also taken off his Kabbalah bracelet. What does it all meeean?! [x17]
  • Journalist James J. Braddock is suing Angelina Jolie, claiming she stole the plot of her movie, In the Land of Blood and Honey, from an article he published in 2007. There are some strong similarities between the stories, so maybe husbands aren’t the only thing Angie steals from people. OH SNAP! [Radar]
  • From the Department of Sad Things That Just Keep Getting Sadder, Charlie Sheen’s ex-wife Brooke Mueller has been arrested while on vacation in Aspen, Colorado for cocaine possession. There’s probably a skiing/powder/cocaine joke to be made, but I’m too busy worrying about the welfare of the couple’s 2-year-old twins, Bob and Max, to make it. [Us Weekly]
  • Ben Stiller, who’s been married to Christine Taylor for 11 years, had some good advice during a red carpet interview about making your marriage last:
  • Neglecting your children probably is the key. Because that just opens up so much time for your career. And for your marriage too.
  • He then got serious and explained,
  • The real response is that one of us is with the kids while the other one is working. And a lot of communication. And we’re lucky these days because there are so many ways to Skype, e-mail. And you can take airplanes these days to visit when you’re working.
  • It really is hard to imagine the difficulties celebrity couples faced back in the days before airplanes. [Huffington Post]
  • At this point, the three-ring Kardashian circus has so much drama leaking out from every direction that it’s almost impossible to keep track of all of the action. Please direct your attention away from Kim and Kourtney, and focus it for a second on Khloé. Someone has filed an assault and battery suit against her. Chantal Spears is claiming that Khloé beat her up back in 2009 and that she was “in great fear for her life and physical well-being.” Spears is asking for damages, but there haven’t been any charges filed. At least we won’t have to watch any Kardashians being dragged off to jail—for the moment anyway. [E! Online]

  • Pamela Anderson had an interesting role in a recent Canadian Christmas special. She played a Virgin Mary whose claim of purity is called into question. [Huffington Post]
