Sandusky Lawsuit Alleges Coach Has Been Abusing Boys For More Than 30 Years

If you thought that the case of disgraced former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky couldn’t get any more stomach churning, think again. A lawsuit filed by one of Sandusky’s alleged victims claims that founder of The Second Mile charity abused the boy more than 100 times and threatened the boy’s family into keeping quiet, and that Penn State University and its football program routinely turned a blind eye to the abuse. He also claims that Sandusky’s abuse began well before authorities think it began.

The victim, now 29, remains anonymous. He’s being represented by Jeff Anderson, a prominent attorney who often takes on high profile child abuse cases.

The suit names Penn State University and Sandusky’s charity The Second Mile, alleging that the university fostered an environment of secrecy that extends back to the 1970s. Sandusky had worked on recently fired head football coach Joe Paterno’s coaching staff from 1969 until his retirement in 1999.

According to the complaint, the victim met Sandusky when he was only 10 years old. Between 1992 and 1996, Sandusky sexually abused the victim on more than 100 occasions, in Pennsylvania and out of state, on Penn State’s campus, in the Penn State athletic facilities, and in Sandusky’s house, among other locations. The victim says he didn’t come forward until now because he feared what would happen to him or his family if the truth came out, as Sandusky threatened them into remaining quiet.

The alleged victim, known as John Doe A, released a statement through his attorney. In it, he said,

I am the man in this lawsuit and I’m writing this statement and taking this action because I don’t want other kids to be hurt and abused by Jerry Sandusky or anybody like Penn State to allow people like him to do it – rape kids. I never told anybody what he did to me over 100 times at all kinds of places until the newspapers reported that he had abused other kids and the people at Penn State and Second Mile didn’t do the things they should have to protect me and the other kids…
I am hurting and have been for a long time because of what happened but feel now even more tormented that I have learned of so many other kids were abused after me. Now that I have told and done something about it I am feeling better and going to get help and work with the police. I want other people who have been hurt to know they can come forward and get help and help protect others in the future.

Jerry Sandusky is currently out on bail, and his first hearing is scheduled to take place on December 13. He faces 40 counts related to child abuse the state of Pennsylvania says occurred over the course of 15 years.
