I don’t know why Donald Trump bothers playing anything but “Tomorrow Belongs to Me” at his Very Special Big Boy Gets Big Claps rallies, but on Sunday night he attempted to rev up the angry mob with Rihanna, and she was not happy. Cue so many “Rihanna Wants Trump to Please STOP the Music” headlines littering the internet that your eyes explode.
On Sunday night, Washington Post reporter Philip Rucker was in Chattanooga, Tennessee to catch all of Trump’s loud yelling. “It’s been said a million times, but here’s a million and one—Trump’s rallies are unlike anything else in politics,” he tweeted. “Currently, Rihanna’s ‘Don’t Stop the Music’ is blaring in Chattanooga as aides toss free Trump T-shirts into the crowd, like a ball game. Everyone’s loving it.”
Everyone, of course, except for Rihanna fans, who knew RiRi—an outspoken Trump critic—wouldn’t approve. So they tagged her in the replies, and the lady came through.
Rihanna’s other most recent tweet is a plea for Florida voters to restore voting rights to people who have served out their felony convictions, and to vote for Andrew Gillum (whom the president recently called “a thief,” among other things) for governor. Last year, she excoriated Trump for failing to act fast enough when Hurricane Maria slammed Puerto Rico, destroying the island’s infrastructure and killing thousands.
Trump has inexplicably struggled to find musical artists willing to soundtrack rallies in which he spouts unrepentant lies and lights fires under racist bellies. In fact, just a few days ago, Vulture made a handy list of artists who told Trump to go fuck himself. The list is:
