On Thursday, NBC News reported that, according to three law enforcement officials and an internal memo that’s been circulating US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency since August, the Department of Homeland Security has been gearing up to carry out raids targeting 8,400 undocumented immigrants nationwide. The raids were initially scheduled to take place over a five day period beginning September 17.

The plan was described in the internal document as, “the largest operation of its kind in the history of ICE.”

The memo refers to the heartless and unusually expansive raids as “Operation Mega,” a name that sounds as if it were selected by either a belligerent child or a condom salesman.

An official told NBC News that the initiative is only in its planning stages, and could be modified, cancelled, or postponed before it’s carried out, especially since the department is devoting so many of its resources towards rescue operations in Florida, at the moment, with hurricane Irma so perilously close.

After NBC went public with its story, ICE spokesperson Sarah Rodriguez released the following statement indicating that the operation will at least be postponed, if not cancelled altogether:

“While we generally do not comment on future potential law enforcement actions, operational plans are subject to change based on a variety of factors. Due to the current weather situation in Florida and other potentially impacted areas, along with the ongoing recovery in Texas, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had already reviewed all upcoming operations and has adjusted accordingly. There is currently no coordinated nationwide operation planned at this time. The priority in the affected areas should remain focused on life-saving and life-sustaining activities.”

An official also told NBC News that Operation Mega would not target children (even so, pulling apart families arguably qualifies), unlike the decision that Trump, a roach infestation feeding greedily off human pain, made earlier this week to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

Rather, the official told NBC, the raids would target gang members and perpetrators of serious crimes, and other people just swept up as “collateral.”

You know it was originally “Operation MAGA.” You know it.
