Have you ever wondered how Tinker Bell became Tinker Bell? Wait a sec, you haven’t? Well Reese Witherspoon has, and she’s attached to produce and star in Tink, a live-action movie “in the vein of Maleficent” that tells Tinker Bell’s story from “a new perspective.” Its chosen perspective has yet to be announced, but its screenwriter has!
Victoria Strouse, who wrote the script for Pixar’s upcoming Finding Nemo sequel, Finding Dory, is penning the script for the project, which does not have a director on board and is still in development…Unlike Maleficent or some other recent Disney movies, however, Tink is being developed to be made in a more modest, midrange budget.
The low budget suggests—to me, at least—that this will be a dialogue-heavy film. One that won’t rely on special effects and elaborate sets to advance the story, but instead on stimulating conversations. Maybe there will be a long dinner scene where Tink, the only fairy at a human dinner party, drinks too much rosé and gets self-conscious about her wings. “You’re all lookin’ at ‘em!” she screams. “I see you lookin’ at ‘em! But I’m more’n these wings! I’m more’n just a pair o’ darn wings!” I’m thinking Nicole Holofcener should direct.
