In a statement delivered to the New York Times, Rashida Jones corrected reports (which included those quoted in Tuesday night’s Dirt Bag) that she and writing partner Will McCormack left the production of Toy Story 4 after Disney Animation Head John Lasseter “made an unwanted advance” toward her.
Her statement reads:
“The breakneck speed at which journalists have been naming the next perpetrator renders some reporting irresponsible. We did not leave Pixar because of unwanted advances. That is untrue. We parted ways because of creative and, more importantly, philosophical differences. There is so much talent at Pixar, and we remain enormous fans of their films. However, it is also a culture where women and people of color do not have an equal creative voice.”
John Lasseter announced his “six-month sabbatical” after admitting to “missteps” that made members of the Disney Animation staff feel “disrespected or uncomfortable.”

Melissa Schuman, former member of the girl group Dream, accused Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter of raping her 11 years ago, when she was 18.
In the lengthy accusation, which she published on her blog, Schuman describes an encounter that began with a “casual hangout” and transitioned into kissing. When Carter began unbuttoning Schuman’s pants, she claims she told him to stop. He didn’t, and told her, “Don’t worry. I won’t tell anybody.”
Schuman continues:
I told him thats not why I didn’t want to do it. He took off my pants anyway and then proceeded to perform oral sex on me. I told him to stop, but he didn’t...I remember thinking at that point that maybe after this he will just stop, but he didn’t...He sat himself on the bathroom counter and asked me to perform oral sex on him. I declined, he was upset.
After taking her to his bedroom and throwing her on the bed, Schuman claims Carter “climbed on top” of her.
Again, I told him that I was a virgin and I didn’t want to have sex. I told him that I was saving myself for my future husband. I said it over and over again. He whispered in my ear as to entice me, “I could be your husband.”
He was relentless, refusing to take my no’s for an answer. He was heavy, too heavy to get out from under him. Then I felt it, he put something inside of me. I asked him what it was and he whispered in my ear once more, “It’s all me baby.”
Nick Carter has yet to respond to the allegation.
