Controversial rapper XXXTentacion is in custody after a hearing today in his domestic abuse case, according to TMZ. The site reports that at the hearing, he was charged with seven new felonies, all related to witness tampering and harassment.
Earlier this month, XXXTentacion and his attorneys filed what they claimed was a document signed by the ex-girlfriend he is accused of beating and falsely imprisoning, among other abuses. TMZ reported:
According to the doc, obtained by TMZ, she’s now refusing to cooperate with prosecutors and wants the case to go away.
It wouldn’t guarantee XXX is off the hook, but it would make it more difficult to convict him.
However, Miami-Dade prosecutors are calling BS, telling the judge they doubt the ex-girlfriend really signed the doc. They also say, even IF she did, it doesn’t stop them from going forward with prosecution.
Pitchfork published excerpts of said ex’s testimony of XXXTentacion’s abuse in September. She said that after she had been humming along to a guest verse on one of XXXTentacion’s own tracks, he became angry:
And he was asking me why I was singing his friend’s part of the song, if I like him, why do I like him, like do I ever look at his Twitter,” she said.
Then, XXXTentacion head-butted her, punched her, stomped on her, and put her in the bathtub, where he continued hitting and kicking her. “He also wanted to cut out my tongue because I was singing the song,” she said. She tried to run away down the street. He tackled her, causing her head to hit the pavement. She suffered black eyes, a lump on the back of her head, scratch marks, and bruises, including a large bruise on her ankle where he stomped her.
TMZ adds that today, the judge said XXXTentacion violated his bond from his initial arrest, is being held without bail, and will likely remain in jail until the start of his trial. He faces decades if convicted. Pitchfork reports that his next hearing is scheduled for January 28, 2018.
