Over the weekend, a man drinking a Lime-a-Rita and claiming to be an NYU-educated lawyer was filmed shouting racist slurs at people on the L train, then getting his ass handed to him at the Bedford stop. It turns out one of the unsung heroes kicking this racist off the train was none other than rapper Princess Nokia.
Gothamist reported the incident on Monday, and spoke with the cinematographer, Joshua R. Pyne. Payne said the altercation took place on Saturday afternoon, after the seemingly drunk man starting shouting at a group of young black men:
“Understandably, this woman of color and a couple other folks as you can see in the video, call the guy out,” Pyne told Gothamist. “This guy starts caterwauling about his 1st Amendment rights and whatnot. The guy didn’t seem to be falling-down drunk, but was ...clearly belligerent.”
The video is pretty upsetting, despite the justice served in the form of soup being thrown in this idiot’s face:
The hand throwing the soup turned out be that of Destiny Nicole Frasqueri, better known as rapper Princess Nokia, according to a series of tweets she sent on Wednesday morning:
Bravery and sacrifice and talent, all in one person. I would really like to send her several pints of her favorite soup and some thank you flowers. Though seeing more evidence of vile racist dipshits walking among us is always disturbing, the good people who come out to fight them are some solace—also, according to Gothamist, he didn’t get his bag back.
Jezebel has reached out to Frasqueri for comment and will update with any response.
