R. Kelly, who was recently accused of running a sex cult in which he brainwashed and held young women, canceled four of his 10 upcoming tour dates on Monday, reportedly due to low ticket sales.
According to TMZ Kelly’s Virginia tour-stop in Friday was barely at 50% capacity and shortly after two Louisiana shows, a Dallas show and a Los Angeles date were canceled.
It’s unclear whether the lack of ticket sales are related to the accusations; sources said the Los Angeles show was canceled due to scheduling conflicts, but did not offer much insight about the other cities. The cancellations coincide with last month’s Buzzfeed exposé, which accused Kelly of being manipulative and physically abusive towards several women of legal age.
In July, R. Kelly denied the report and he said he was working “diligently” to pursue those accusers. “Mr. Robert Kelly is both alarmed and disturbed by the recent revelations attributed to him,” Kelly’s lawyer Linda Mensch told TMZ and Variety in a statement. “Mr. Kelly unequivocally denies such accusations and will work diligently and forcibly to pursue his accusers and clear his name.” There are still some tour dates left on his schedule, including stops in Los Angeles, Memphis and Las Vegas.
