Quvenzhané Wallis Adorably Stymies Vogue's Attempts to Talk Fashion

Latest

“Ooooooh,” says a chastened-sounding Quvenzhané Wallis in this interview. “I forgot to do my homework today!” Vogue‘s André Leon Talley sat down with the youngest-ever Academy Award nominee and attempted repeatedly to get her to talk about fashion. “Is pink your favorite color?” he asks. “Do you think you’re going to be wearing pink to the Oscars, is that the color choice for you?” Wallis raises her arms into a slow, deliberate shrug.

Instead, Wallis wants to name her favorite musicians — Selena Gomez, Nicki Minaj, and Demi Lovato among them — and bop along to Frank Ocean.

“You love music, so you must look at some pictures of fashion,” tries Talley.

Wallis responds by singing the chorus line from the song “Fashion is My Kryptonite” by the Disney teen idol Zendaya Coleman.

“I just want to know, what are you thinking about fashion? Because I read online that you did not want to wear a long dress,” says the Vogue editor.

“Cus I might step on it and trip on it and I don’t want to humiliate myself!” interrupts Wallis.

Only 9 years old and already she’s mastered perhaps the most fundamental of red-carpet tips: don’t trip on your dress.
