Whatever Quentin Tarantino’s ninth (and supposedly penultimate) movie ends up being, it’ll be out on August 9, 2019, if all goes according to plan, according to Deadline. That’s the 50th anniversary of the day Manson Family members Tex Watson, Susan Atkins, and Patricia Krenwinkel, under the advisement of Charles Manson, invaded Terry Melcher’s property and murdered Sharon Tate, Jay Sebring, Abigail Folger, Wojciech Frykowski, and Steven Parent. (A fourth Manson Family member, Linda Kasabian, was also there but did not enter Melcher’s and did not murder anyone with her own hands.)
Tarantino’s upcoming movie has been rumored to focus on the Manson Family, though at a brunch after a screening of The Beguiled last month attended by Academy members, Tarantino announced, “It’s not Charles Manson, it’s 1969.” Hm.
As of July, Debra Tate, Sharon’s vigilant sister who attends every Manson Family member’s parole hearing and has made it her mission to keep them all locked up for life, said she hadn’t heard from Tarantino. She also said Jennifer Lawrence, rumored at the time to be considered for the role of Sharon Tate, was not pretty enough to play her sister.
According to IndieWire, Margot Robbie is rumored to be playing Sharon Tate, and Brad Pitt, Samuel L. Jackson, and Leonardo DiCaprio are said to also make up the cast. Tarantino’s cameras are set to roll in January.
