Women’s Wear Daily reports that Cate Blanchett—along with 890 other big-deal Australians—has been named to Lizzie’s Birthday Honors list. (Apparently when you are the queen you give other people presents on your birthday.) WWD explains:

The Australian actress and former Sydney Theatre Company co-artistic director has been named a Companion of the Order of Australia, the most prestigious honor, for eminent service to the performing arts as a stage and screen actor, her directorship of artistic organisations, her support of humanitarian and environmental causes and for being a role model for women and young performers.

She doesn’t get a title—the Australians decline to participate in the “dame” and “knight” style honors—but she is affirmed to be very fancy and successful, I guess.

Do you think Queen Elizabeth II has seen Carol?

Sorry to burst the bubble but yeah that’s not how the UK Honours System works.

What happens is a bunch of civil servants somewhere in Whitehall come up with a big list of non-controversial celebrities currently popular and put them on the list along with a small number of “little people” who did something nice, like that lollipop lady who is now an MBE (Our chief Honours system is Order of the British Empire which is very regressive), and give them Honours.

This is all done to add enough people to the list so that the 20-30 Party donors, ex MPs, big business people and so forth all being given Knighthoods and other honours in return for political favours given to one of the major Parties don’t stand out too much and therefore doesn’t look like the massive con it is.

For instance last year Shami Chakrabarti was given a Life Peerage in the Lords by Jeremy Corbyn after she completed an “independent” report which just so happened to avoid linking him to any of the antisemitism rife in the Labour Party while David Cameron put forward and Oil Executive for a Knighthood after he funded the Pro-EU campaign.
