Pussy Riot Member Hospitalized After Being Overworked in Jail

Latest

Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, one of the members of the anti-Putinist Pussy Riot feminist punk band who were convicted of “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred” for a performance in Moscow’s main cathedral, was hospitalized last week after complaining about headaches and being overworked at the prison camp she’s been stuck in since October.

Her bandmate, Yekaterina Samutsevich, who was also sentenced but released on appeal (the third, like Tolokonnikova, was not so lucky), said Tolokonnikova was exhausted from sewing hundreds of jackets a day. “They don’t allow her to have any rest; she works nearly round the clock,” Samutsevich told independent Rain TV on Friday. “She said she feels tired, extremely tired.” Tolokonnikova is sentenced to two years in the prison colony.
