Preteen Girls Stab Friend 19 Times to Appease Mythic 'Slender Man'

Two twelve-year-old girls are accused of stabbing a classmate at least 19 times in order to please a mythical creature they read about online.

The victim, whose name has not been released, is currently in stable condition. One of the stab wounds just narrowly missed an artery. Prosecutors said the two girls, both from southeastern Wisconsin, plotted the attack for months. According to the Associated Press, the girls lured the victim to a sleepover on Friday. During a hide-and-seek game on Friday, they attacked her with a knife, with one girl reportedly telling the other “go ballistic, go crazy.”

They told police they were trying to appease a character they learned about online:

One of the girls told a detective they were trying to become “proxies” of Slender Man, a mythological demon-like character they learned about on creepypasta.wikia.com, a website about horror stories and legends. They planned to run away to the demon’s forest mansion after the slaying, the complaint said.

According to the criminal complaint, one of the girls told an investigator they began planning to kill their friend in December. The other girl told police they decided to kill her so they could become proxies of Slender Man, who would accept them and let them live with him in his mansion in the Nicolet National Forest.
The other girl said she sees Slender Man in her dreams. She said he watches her and can read her mind and teleport.

The girls left the victim for dead, but she managed to crawl to a nearby road. A bicyclist found her and she later identified her attackers to police. They were both charged as adults with first-degree attempted murder. If convicted, they face up to 60 years in prison. Bail was set at $500,000 cash per child.
