Pencil NBC's Hairspray Live! Into Your Calendar

Having done The Sound of Music, Peter Pan, and The Wiz—excuse me, The Sound of Music Live!, Peter Pan Live! and The Wiz Live!—NBC is gearing up for Hairspray, which now has an official air date: December 7.

That’s according to Variety. NBC has brought on multiple people from the stage production to lend a hand:

Along with previously announced exec producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, Kenny Leon, who most recently directed “The Wiz Live” for the network, has been tapped to direct. Original “Hairspray” choreographer Jerry Mitchell is on board to choreograph, and Harvey Fierstein, who played the role of Edna in the stage musical, will write the script adaptation. Original “Hairspray” songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman are also back for NBC’s next TV musical.

The cast is TBA; ready your live-tweeting beehives and house dresses.

I genuinely enjoyed the latest movie version - it’d be hard to top that cast.

Also, it seems far too soon for a remake, of sorts (I say that because I saw the movie as a teenager, and I don’t want to admit that 10 years have gone by since then).
