Monday night, on the Halloween episode of Full Frontal, Samantha Bee sat down with President Barack Obama to discuss the upcoming election and getting young people to vote. To celebrate the holiday, she then asked for a scary story and Obama, against my advisement, took a page from you people.
“Look, Sam, the reason I’m here is not just to celebrate Halloween with you,” the President—dressed as “what happens when young people vote” (or, in Bee’s interpretation, someone who “got really old, really fast”)—told Bee, continuing:
“But it’s actually because I want to let first-time voters know why it is so important to vote. This is probably the most important election of our lifetimes. The choices could not be clearer and if we want to build on progress on issues like climate change and gender equality and making sure that everyone has healthcare and young people have a good education and can afford college, they gotta make sure that they’re voices are heard.”
“So you are the father of a college student sitting down with a 47-year-old mother of three,” Bee responded. “If this was your best idea to get young people to vote, what was your worst idea?”
But no matter how many jokes Bee threw at him, Obama had the ultimate punchline: Don’t vote and Donald Trump will be our next president.
