Obama Offers Advice to President Wannabe Kanye West

President Obama offered some pearls of wisdom to 2020 presidential hopeful Kanye West during this morning’s Democratic National Committee event in San Francisco. “You may have heard that Kanye is thinking about running for speaker of the House,” he said to the crowd, who immediately erupted in laughter. “It couldn’t get any stranger. In case Kanye is serious about this whole POTUS thing — or, as he calls it, ‘Peezy’ — I do have advice for him.”

He began with a reference to West’s wife, Kim Kardashian, and her family, reports CNN. “First of all, you’ve got to deal with strange characters who behave as if they are on a reality TV show, so you’ve got to be cool with that.” The president continued, “Saying you have a beautiful dark twisted fantasy, that’s what’s known as off message in politics. You can’t say something like that.”

West announced his plans to run for office at the MTV Video Music Awards in August. Obama finished his speech with one last thought. “Do you really think this country is going to elect a black guy from the south side of Chicago with a funny name to be president of the United States? That’s crazy.” Mr. President’s got jokes. I’m gonna miss him.

Obama, who is spending this weekend touring the West Coast, met with families of victims from the Umpqua Community College shootings in Oregon on Friday. “The president has made clear that the goal of his visit is to spend time with the families of those who are so deeply affected by this terrible tragedy,” said White House spokesman Josh Earnest. After SF, the president will be making stops in Los Angeles and San Diego.
