NYC Now Has a Real, Friends-Approved Central Perk

Let’s say you’re the kind of dorkwad who’s spent the last twenty years being obsessed with the sitcom Friends even though plenty of other TV shows (better TV shows, even) have come out since then. Well, congratulations, you hypothetical loser! You can now turn your your sad, pathetic fantasies of hanging out at Central Perk — the Friends‘ favorite locale — into a reality!*

From Time:

The once-fictional coffee shop that was the hangout of choice for the cast of Friends has become a reality — for a limited time, anyway. In a collaboration between Warner Bros and Eight O’Clock Coffee, Central Perk will open its doors to the public on Wednesday, September 17 and stay open until October 18, giving fans plenty of time to grow out their Rachels and find their most ’90s outfit.

The pop-up Central Perk, located at 199 Lafayette Street in New York City, is designed to look like the coffee shop where Ross, Rachel, Phoebe, Joey, Monica, Chandler and your misplaced sense of self hung out between the years of 1994 and 2004. It also features several displays of Friends memorabilia, including costumes and props from the show.

And the best part of all? Gunther is still there.

Also from Time:

While the surly waiter had no interest in taking our order (typical), actor James Michael Tyler — who played Gunther on the show — was happy to stretch out on the couch. “As a character, I was never able to sit on the couch,” he says. “Gunther only sat on it once!”

Congratulations, actor who played Gunther. This is a big day for you.

Central Perk will be open from September 18 through October 18.

*I have already made plans to go.
