Yesterday the North Carolina Senate voted 29-19 to override Gov. Bev Perdue's veto of a bill that requires ultrasounds, state-mandated counseling, and 24-hour waiting periods before abortions. The bill passed in the House earlier this week. Sen. Stan Bingham, the lone Republican who had voted against the bill in June, left the building before the vote.

I'm crying. No, really. Just thinking of what this means for women who are going for a LEGAL medical procedure, one that (isn't always but) can be fraught with emotional turmoil.

All the legislators who voted for this should have had to sit and listen to my very elderly aunt (God rest her soul) describe illegal abortions back in the old country.
