More Moms Taking Jobs As Phone Sex Operators To Pay The Bills

We’ve all seen the commercials: a scantily-clad young lady poised on her bed, talking on the phone, laughing, and urging those of us watching television at 3am to stop being pathetic and start chatting up fly honeys on party lines. But there’s a catch that callers probably aren’t thinking about: that lady on the other end of the line may very well be someone’s mom, desperate to make money for her family.

We’re not talking about “hot moms” or MILFS — phone sex operators can be your average milk-and-cookies mom, someone who’s simply fallen on hard times and are looking for any way to make some extra cash. Intrepid reporter Elisabeth Hasselbeck (sigh) spoke to some of these women, most of whom say they would like to work outside of the sex industry if their other employment options weren’t so slim. “I’m probably not ever going to get used to all the weirdos out there,” said one anonymous woman interviewed by Hasselbeck, who does her job just down the hall from her children. When Hasselbeck asks if there’s ever a chance that one of the interviewee’s sons could ever hear her while she works, she replied, “I talk very softly, it’s sexier.”

Meanwhile, Elisabeth Hasselbeck is “reporting” this story, so you can imagine how it plays: pseudo-horror! Her “I can’t believe this is actually happening …in America” tone just undermines the whole story. Please, Elisabeth, just stick to wearing your judgeypants on The View — they really aren’t flattering in a news segment.
