Illustration for article titled Michelle Obama Makes Best Vine Ever for Turnip For What’

First Lady Michelle Obama is really, really serious about her "Let's Move" healthy living campaign. Except no, she's not serious serious. Not at all.

Obama participated in a White House Q&A on Vine using the hashtag #AskTheFirstLady. She answered questions about her favorite vegetable (SWEET POTATO!) and talked about getting kids to exercise more. But the best answer from the First Lady was in response to Vine user Alphacat, who just happens to do a damn fine impression of President Barack Obama. Alphacat asked "How many calories do you burn every time you 'turn up'?! "

Her response? A masterstroke of pure genius.

Sure, this is totally the kind of thing your mom would do to embarrass you/try to seem cool. But you just saw First Lady Michelle Obama do a little head bopping to "Turn Down for What." Take that treasure and lock it away in your secret hope chest of magical dreams.

I'm sure this response will generate the full flaming fury of the wrath of the commentariat. However, as an American woman, I can't help but cringe. I find this vine anything but funny or appropriate coming from a First Lady. Using a rap song instead of something from the arts in the name of being relatable? Propagating a meme that promotes incorrect usage of the English language? Mean mugging with a root vegetable? I say this as an American woman who typically supports Michelle Obama, but this, unlike turnips, leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Pass the decorum, please.
