Meet the Crew

This week, newly elected members of Congress are in Washington, DC, for freshman orientation and look who came together like a crossover superhero franchise except for progressive women who want Medicare for All: Minnesota’s Ilhan Omar, Massachusetts’s Ayanna Pressley, Michigan’s Rashida Tlaib, and New York’s Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez:

It’s good:

Beyond making up Congress’ growing left flank, Omar and Tlaib are the first Muslim women to serve in Congress, Pressley is the first black woman to represent the state of Massachusetts in Congress, and Ocasio-Cortez is the youngest woman elected to Congress. (She also won her district—split between the boroughs of Queens and the Bronx—in a primary upset against incumbent congressman Joe Crowley.)

Here’s hoping this friendship lasts longer than any of the ones I made in freshman orientation.
