In addition to starring in a remake of Mary Poppins with Emily Blunt, a fella you might know named Lin-Manuel Miranda (do you know him?) has also signed on to co-write the music for Disney’s live action remake of The Little Mermaid.
“There’s already a live-action remake of The Little Mermaid,” you say, incredulous. “And Chloë Grace Moretz is starring in it,” you add. “I don’t know who she is, but it seems excessive to have yet another Little Mermaid movie,” you again interject. Well, there will be another one because we need it, and Miranda will work with songwriter Alan Menken to create songs based on those from Disney’s 1989 animated film. We should have seen this coming, since Miranda is a fan of the franchise.
Via Deadline:
While Miranda has become all the rage since his record breaking Broadway show Hamilton became the hottest ticket and won 11 Tony Awards, he has a soft spot for The Little Mermaid, even naming his newborn son Sebastian, after the crab in the musical. They are still working out a lot of details, including the level of Miranda’s involvement. At this point, he isn’t writing the script, but he will supervise the story and the studio will hire a writer shortly.
Ariel is not throwing away her shot, am I right?
