Kylie Minogue Is a Little Bit Country On 'Dancing'

Entertainment

The Top Kylie is back with new music and it seems like she’s going full rhinestone cowgirl on us.

“Dancing,” the first single from her new album Golden, has arrived. But if you’re expecting the kind of club hits Minogue is known for, this song might not be your cup of tea. It’s a cheery, PG-13 pop song with a little country twang that doesn’t sound anything like classic, synth-pop Kylie. It’s perfect for square-dancing, not for losing your shit on a dark sweaty dance floor.

Last summer Minogue was reportedly working in Nashville with a bunch of country singer-songwriters and producers and given all the glittery cowgirl imagery we might be getting an Aussie Joanne. She also previously said the album would be very personal, inspired by her recent breakup.

“It was a really good time to be honest and work through everything, and give a snapshot of where I am in my life,” she said on BBC Radio. “A lot of it was done in Nashville, and that taught me about putting more story into the song…And then you can take that song and produce that any way you want.”

But if you listen to “Dancing” and long for the old Kylie, let me direct you to her best:
